Our 5th graders were so excited to work with clay! Students learned how to make simple bowls called pinch pots. They were able to turn them into an animal, either real or imaginary. After firing the clay in the kiln, The students painted them with acrylic paint.

5th graders tried Contour Drawing- a kind of practice drawing- before spending the last two days observing and drawing some fall-themed Still Lifes. In addition to observation drawing, we will also be working on our colored pencil blending skills.
After learning how to make shapes appear to be 3D using one point perspective, students painted their pictures with just the primary colors of red, blue, and yellow plus white and black. All of the colors that you see were mixed by students!
Our clay pinch pot animals have been fired in the kiln. Now it's time to paint them using acrylic paints.
The 5th graders are so excited to be using clay! We learned how to make Pinch Pots, and how to form Slabs and Coils from clay. The students learned a little about the history of clay use, then sketched ideas for their Pinch Pot animals. They're learning a lot about sculpting while also having fun with the clay.
5th grade practiced looking and drawing their hands using a method called Contour Drawing. They then used their observation skills to draw their shoes and add a Realistic or Abstract background of their choice.
