We practiced observing and drawing by using a grid to enlarge a photo of an animal. After drawing, we discussed the difference between Realistic and Abstract artwork. 6th graders had their choice to make their animal in either style, or somewhere in between.

Everyone's project made it out of the kiln! Now it's time to add ceramic glaze before putting them back in the kiln to be fired a 2nd time. The results of all of their hard work can be seen on the Student Art Galleries page to the left!
6th grade learned about clay and how to make slabs out of the material. We constructed cylinders out of the slabs. Students could choose to add a handle or a lid, and create a theme for their decorations.
6th grade created some cool radially symmetrical designs! Then we reviewed color mixing and learned some new color groupings, such as Analogous Colors. They then chose a group of colors for their project and did a whole lot of color mixing!

Mini pumpkins and gourds were the subjects of our Still Life artwork. Students practiced observing and drawing the objects as well as shading and shadows.
Students began a short project that will reinforce our shading and blending skills. They are making their names look like they are 'popping' out of the background!
