After learning about architecture at different times in history, students are designing their own buildings. Parents, you may have seen their knowledge of architecture details when they brought their architecture scavenger hunt homework home! Their finished works will soon be hung in the hallway, and will be posted in our gallery at the end of the rotation. |

5th grade learned the 3 main hand-building methods for clay: pinch pots, slabs, and coils. They used this knowledge to create monsters made from the 3 parts, with added texture. After being fired in the kiln, students will paint them.
A new rotation of 5th grade students has begun! This week the were learning to draw what they See, not what they THINK they see. To do that, we first tried Contour Drawing. This is a drawing in which you are not allowed to look at your paper or lift your pencil- it forces the artist to really look at what they are drawing. After that exercise, students used their shoes as still life subjects. We also added shading and shadows to increase the 3D effect. These will be on display outside of the art room in case you stop by during conferences! |
