Two weeks ago we used the hand building techniques of pinch pots, slabs, and coils to create these monsters. They were fired in our kiln, and now students are painting them using watercolors. After drying a clear gloss spray coat will be applied to make the colors more permanent.

One point perspective is a drawing system that artists use to make flat shapes appear to be 3D. Students learned how to make a vanishing point, draw 2D shapes, then use a ruler to connect the edges of the shapes to the vanishing point. They also learned how to use the colored pencils to create shading effects. Math and Art together! 5th grade spent the end of last week learning about different architecture terms and what styles of buildings would look like, from ancient to modern. Now students are using their architecture knowledge to design museums.
