Color mixing and color grouping were reviewed before we jumped into making a design just from lines, shapes, and colors.

More Math plus Art- One Point Perspective is a system for making shapes appear to be 3D. Here we built on our Perspective skills from last year and drew a room of the student's choice.
Math meets Art in grid enlargement. Students chose a photo of an animal, then made square grids over the top of it. Next we measured out 3" square on a 12x18" paper. Then we enlarged our photograph to make a realistic drawing of that animal. The next step was to now make the animal appear to be more Abstract, which we did after looking at a number of different artists for inspiration. Students chose their materials and ideas. They turned look awesome decorating our hallway!
Since we tackled pinch pots last year as 5th graders, this year we learned how to make a slab and turn it into a mug. We also learned how to "add and subtract" with clay to make interesting faces. Once they were fired we added glaze and fired them again. They are currently on display in the library here at MIS.
Students learned what a Parody is, and made their own by selecting American Gothic, The Persistence of Memory, or the Mona Lisa as their famous artwork. They were a hit when they were displayed in the hallway!
