Students made slab construction containers that were personalized. After a first firing, they got to use ceramic glazes this year. They look awesome!
6th grade began the year by learning and practicing strategies for drawing from observation. Then they chose objects to create and draw a Still Life arrangement.
After having to skip clay last year, 6th grade was excited to get to try out our favorite art material! We learned how to make a basic pinch pot form, then add a coil and slab. Everything else is the student's creation. When finished, they are glazed and fired a second time. Students learned how to make their artwork appear to be more 3D with the use of One Point Perspective.
6th grade used only red, yellow, and blue paint (plus black and white) to create all of the colors that you see here!
After not being able to use clay last year, the students were excited to learn about the material of clay, and use it to sculpt creations from pinch pots and their imaginations. 6th grade is starting the quarter by observing and drawing their backpacks. We are also reviewing how to observe and create shading so that they look more 3D. We will be finishing up the drawing by learning how to do a watercolor wash technique for the background.
